REPORTS
a) County Council:
County Councillor Pitts reported on problems with Social Services
funding for next financial year and new regime of charging for
home care from April 2003. He was working with the Parish Council
to get further traffic calming.
b) Borough Council:
Councillor Pitts reported on the imminent transfer of council
housing to a private independent organisation.
c) Village Fund Committee:
The Chairman read Mrs B. Chambers report. The Carnival and Jubilee
celebrations, which had proved very popular, and the annual pantomime
'Aladdin' which was attended by around 1000 people. Funding had
ben obtained from the Lottery, Borough Council and various other
sources. A touring lighting rig had been purchased and 3-phase
electrics installed in Burniston & Cloughton Village Hall
to cope with the demands of any major entertainment.
d) Playgroup:
Mrs L. Walker reported hours of opening had been extended due
to increased demand and additional staff had been appointed. There
was much interest in playgroup's actvities by villagers and the
involvement of parents and grandparents was greatly valued. Improvements
planned for the forthcoming year included anew toilet for the
disabled.
e) Brownies:
Mrs A. Couch reported on a successful year with a waiting list
for membership. Fundraising events continue.
f) St Mary's Church:
Cllr. Hill read Rev. Taylor's report. St. Mary's Church has a
Sunday attendance of about 80, and the parent and toddler group
run by church members is very popular. The Sunday Club is attended
by about 30 children and a youth club for the over-11@s has started
on a Thursday evening. Work continues on the hall, which now has
a new kitchen and many other alterations and improvements. There
is concern about the upkeep and runing costs of the burial ground
which has suffered damage and needed extra work - certain economies
will have to be made if closure is to be avoided.
g) Cloughton Village Hall Committee:
Mr R Chambers reported a block plan drawn up by the Duchy had
been recently received and would be discussed at a meeting with
Borough Council planning officials and the Duchy which was arranged
for 13th March. It was hoped to have something to report to the
April Parish Council meeting.
h) Football Club:
Cllr. Hill read Mr Pratt's report. The Blacksmith's Arms club
is in the Sunday League. It has a nucleus of players from Burniston
and Cloughton, supported by police officers who have joined since
their own team folded, and turns out a full team every week. While
short of money and sponsors, the team is grateful for the support
of Tony Arnell who provided a new kit this season. The changing
facilities (a caravan) are constantly being vandalised - the club
would appreciate any help the public could give to catch the culprits.
i) Burniston & Cloughton Village Hall:
Mr Patterson's report was read by Cllr. Hill. The hall continues
to be well used, regulars include pop-in, WI, Evergreens and jumble
sales. Income from hirings has just met running costs. A new central
heating system has been installed thanks to various grants. Flood
damage had meant the bridge over the main beck behind the hall
had to be completely rebuilt and the one on the way to the tennis
courts has been considerably refurbished. Vandalism (including
broken windows and a break in) continues to be a problem. |
